WHY NATURAL SUN PROTECTION .. ?

 

1. WHAT IS NATURAL SUN PROTECTION

There are several oils, kinds of butter, essential oils, and other natural ingredients that provide natural sun protection. A few from these namely Raspberry Seed and Carrot Seed along with Avocado have a heavy amount of SPF that helps protect your skin from the Suns Rays in a Natural way. Being natural they nourish the skin and offer protection against the effects of excessive sun exposure.

 

2. WHY IS SUN PROTECTION NECESSARY 

Sunscreen is such an important step to your routine and most people don’t even realize it. Its use prevents your skin from harmful rays which in turn prevents premature aging, sunburn, and certain types of skin cancer. You want to find a Sunscreen that has a broad spectrum formula and is water resistant. It needs to be applied liberally and has an SPF of 15 or higher.

 

 

3. HAZARDS OF CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN

Active ingredients in sunscreens come in two forms, mineral and chemical filters. Each uses a different mechanism for protecting skin and maintaining stability in sunlight. The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include a combination of two to six of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. A handful of products combine zinc oxide with chemical filters.

Laboratory studies indicate that some chemical UV filters may mimic hormones, and physicians report sunscreen-related skin allergies, which raises important questions about unintended human health consequences from frequent sunscreen application.

 

4. A LITTLE MORE TO KNOW ABOUT SPF

SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from UVB rays, the kind of radiation that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer.

 

  • If your skin would normally burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 15 sunscreen would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150 minutes (a factor of 15 times longer). This is a rough estimate that depends on skin type, the intensity of sunlight and the amount of sunscreen used. SPF is actually a measure of protection from the amount of UVB exposure and it is not meant to help you determine the duration of exposure. 
  • For best protection, experts recommend using a minimum SPF sunscreen of 15, applying the proper amount.
  • Most people under-apply sunscreens, using ¼ to ½ the amount required. Using half the required amount of sunscreen only provides the square root of the SPF. So, a half application of an SPF 30 sunscreen only provides an effective SPF of 5.5!
